Do I need a screen for DLP projection television?
I am considering one of these to replace my 10-year-old Zenith. Does anyone know if I necessarily need a screen or can I just project it on my off white wall. Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.
Thanks for your reply, but I was looking at the Sharp XR-205. This is not a rear projection tv with a screen. Guess, I’ll look at the LCD’s or buy another tube TV!!!
You need a screen for any front projector. I design high end theaters for a living. I’ve seen $5000 projectors look like $200 projectors because the owner cheaped out and didn’t get a screen.
However, what your’e describing, a DLP projection tv is NOT a front projector. Its a rear projection tv that has a built in screen. It looks very similar to a normal CRT TV.

She never said it was rear projection. Just because you’ve never heard of one doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
btw, I have a standard LCD portable projector in my garage, I just use a light gray sheet for the screen. Works great, but I keep the room dark so it looks better.
